The Facility Medical Coder II is responsible for accurately assigning ICD and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical purposes, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines. This role involves reviewing medical documentation, abstracting clinical information, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to maintain coding accuracy and quality standards.
Responsibilities
• Assign appropriate ICD and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical purposes.

• Review and interpret facility inpatient and outpatient medical documentation to accurately assign codes.

• Abstract information into the computer for reimbursement and statistical purposes.
,
• Research and stay current with trends in healthcare coding and compliance.
,
• Keep department manager updated with any coding or documentation issues.
,
• Work independently and collaboratively to support department and organizational goals.
,
• Assist Coding Manager with supervision of Clinical Affiliations.
,
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
,
• 3 Years of Experience in Facility Coding covering multiple services.
,
• At least one active certification (RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CPC/CPC-H/COC/CIC).
,
• Experience working in ED, OPS, or IP areas.
,
• Completion of courses in Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology.
,
• Computer literate with experience in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Experience with electronic health records software.
