Write articles, create digital content, analyze engagement, and support community events at AARP!
Your Role:
Key responsibilities include:
• Applying strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to promote AARP Georgia events, advocate for policy issues, and inform statewide audiences.
• Researching federal issues and AARP initiatives, conducting interviews, and writing content for social media, newsletters, and the website with a local focus.
• Creating graphics and copy for state social media accounts.
• Pulling and interpreting social media and newsletter analytics to assist in developing engagement strategies.
• Attending events to produce content and photos for AARP Georgia’s digital publications.
• Assisting in writing press releases and media alerts, adapting national news releases for local media.
• Collaborating on podcast production, including scheduling guests and developing interview questions.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
• Enrollment in a degree program at an accredited college or university and be a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student, remaining academically enrolled throughout the internship.
• Pursuit of a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
• Excellent news and feature story writing skills, with openness to editorial guidance.
• Proficiency in Associated Press Style Guidelines.
• Self-starter attitude, adaptability, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate needs, and prioritize work.
• Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation.
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva.
• Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus.
• Regular and reliable job attendance.
• Respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships.
• Independent judgment in evaluating options and making sound decisions.
• Ability to work effectively in an office environment with moderate noise.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position.
Compensation & Benefits:
• Hourly pay: $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates.
• Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
• Hybrid work environment: Mondays and Fridays are remote workdays, with remote work permitted only within the United States and its territories.
Training & Development:
This internship offers hands-on experience in communications, storytelling, digital media, and event coverage, with opportunities to develop writing, analytics, and multimedia skills.
Career Progression:
The internship may be extended for additional semesters, providing further professional growth and experience in communications and community engagement.
