About the position

The Centralized Scheduling Representative at BJC HealthCare plays a crucial role in the patient access process, serving as the first point of contact for patients. This position is designed for individuals with strong scheduling and patient registration skills, and it offers a remote work opportunity from Monday to Friday, with a Saturday rotation every eight weeks. The representative is responsible for facilitating all components of a patient's entrance into any BJC facility, ensuring that the highest standards of customer service and compassion are upheld. This role requires a high level of emotional intelligence and professionalism, as the representative must make personal connections with patients whose experiences can vary widely based on their medical needs and acuity. The representative's duties include accurately collecting patient demographics and insurance information, verifying benefits, and ensuring point-of-service collections. This is critical for maximizing reimbursements and preventing denials. The role also involves selecting the correct patient from the master person index (MPI), which is essential for patient safety and maintaining the integrity of clinical and financial records. The representative must possess a friendly demeanor, exceptional attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and relevant federal and state regulations. In this fast-paced environment, the representative will utilize critical thinking skills to assess and respond to various situations, anticipating patients' needs and communicating effectively with patients, families, provider offices, and co-workers. Responsibilities include hospital pre-registration and scheduling across multiple BJC systems and hospitals, ensuring proper patient identification, and providing preparation instructions for scheduled procedures. The representative must also comply with complex regulatory guidelines, including Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) and HIPAA Privacy Standards, and demonstrate a high level of independent thinking to solve complex issues. BJC has classified this position as safety-sensitive, requiring the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
