What You’ll Do as a TVI

As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you’ll design and implement instructional programs for students with visual impairments that are tailored to their individual educational and accessibility needs. You will assess functional vision, support Braille and assistive technology instruction, collaborate with general education staff, and ensure that students with visual impairments can fully engage in all aspects of school life. You’ll also work closely with families and IEP teams to provide insight, recommendations, and progress updates.

Texas State Requirements for TVIs

To work as a TVI in Texas public schools, candidates must:
• Hold a valid Texas teaching certificate
• Have a certification in Teaching Students with Visual Impairments (EC-12) issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA)
• Complete a teacher preparation program approved by the TEA
• Pass required Texas educator exams
• Satisfy all district-specific background and fingerprinting requirements

Blazer Jobs will help you navigate and complete all certification and compliance requirements.
