About the role:
The Lead Surge Copy Editor/Production Artist is a unique hybrid role. We are looking for a nimble, adaptable team player with exceptional attention to detail along with excellent proofreading, project management, graphic design, and interpersonal skills. A service-oriented mindset is essential.
In this role, you will leverage modern workflows and software to manage a high volume of print ad production. Responsibilities include project setup, providing designers with details needed to produce a new ad, design updates, versioning, corrections, localizing approved ad campaigns, proofing, client approvals, and trafficking ads, all while navigating multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
Accuracy is critical: every ad must be typo-free, all contact details verified and tested, print specs met, localized content accurate, and delivered on time to the appropriate outlets.
You’ll collaborate closely with media operations, the graphic design team, external partners, and various internal departments to execute your part of this important piece of our business.
Strong relationship management with clients is key as you handle the ad production and proofing process.
Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
• Utilize our software (Hive) to make creative records, track production, proof, get client approval, and traffic ads for newspaper, direct mail, inserts, digital, etc. created by our partner design firm or in-house design team.
• Ensure client offers, disclaimers, and localization requirements are all correct and documented for ad production in the Hive.
• Create and/or spec localized versions of approved ad campaigns. This includes phone numbers, QR codes, URLs, offers, disclaimers, imagery changes, and/or ad resizing.
• Utilize our Digital Asset Management system (Honeycomb) to store, review (internally, with clients, and external partners) and traffic ads.
• Use approved file handling, naming conventions, and meta data tagging standards.
• Proofread ads for accuracy and verify response mechanisms (e.g., that phone, QR codes and URLs work and are for the correct lead source).
• Work closely with clients on ad approval, untracked ad management, executing approved creative theme recommendations into the Hive, and managing internal and external deadlines.
• Work closely with media ops to assure alignment of proper and detailed traffic instructions to vendor
• Traffic completed ad materials to outlets using the processes in Honeycomb on or before deadline and obtain confirmations of receipt
• Track client’s ad production and changes in our software (Hive) for billing purposes.
• Understanding of our billing structure for monthly review of billing for accuracy prior to invoice process
Required Skills/Abilities:
• A positive attitude and a keen ability to embrace change and evolving processes. We are growing and upgrading our processes and technology to continue to provide premiere service to our clients.
• Understanding of digital vs print best practices.
• Pre-Press and Print Production experience.
• Strong ad layout and typography skills and ability to follow brand standards and detailed instructions
• Excellent proofreading skills – you will be proofing ad copy, offers, disclaimers, etc., for internal and external needs for 75% of this role.
• Ridiculous attention to detail and organizational skills
• The ability to juggle many tasks effectively and seamlessly in a deadline-driven environment.
• Client service focused – ability to work with our valued clients in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
• Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills.
• Collaborative mindset with an exuberant willingness to work as a team player
• Customer Relations Management and Digital Asset Management software experience is highly desirable.
• Skilled at Creative Suite specifically InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Acrobat, and Photoshop
• Adobe Fresco experience is a big plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Mac environments is preferred.
Required (and/or) preferred education and experience:
• College degree or commiserate design certificate preferred but not required
• Minimum 1–2-years graphic design experience.
• Background in proofreading in the media, advertising and/or marketing industries a big plus!
