About the position

The Online and Distance Education Instructional Designer at Husson University is responsible for collaborating with faculty to design, develop, implement, and manage asynchronous online courses. This role requires a deep understanding of learning processes and the ability to integrate educational technologies with pedagogical quality to enhance student learning experiences. The designer will also evaluate course effectiveness and ensure accessibility compliance while providing support to instructors and students.

Responsibilities
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and develop high-quality online courses.

• Provide flexibility and support for complex course designs involving multiple stakeholders.

• Act as an expert resource for the Canvas learning management system and related tools.
,
• Apply appropriate learning and instructional theories for effective online course design.
,
• Design online content in Canvas and integrate educational technologies to enhance teaching strategies.
,
• Develop support materials, tutorials, orientations, and workshops for instructors and students.
,
• Communicate effective pedagogy and academic technology applications.
,
• Facilitate administrative aspects of course development and delivery.
,
• Consult with faculty and leadership on instructional design processes.
,
• Provide instructional design services and support for course and program designs.
,
• Evaluate course quality in terms of design, writing, and editing.
,
• Develop and communicate course development schedules.
,
• Assist faculty in navigating the Canvas system and developing course content.
,
• Oversee the design process, aligning content to learning outcomes and creating engaging learning opportunities.
,
• Manage course design revisions and improvements in existing courses.
,
• Stay current with industry technology tools and trends in online education.
,
• Collaborate with Instructional Technology staff to develop new services and test new technologies.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Instructional Design or Education preferred.

• 1-3 years of relevant experience as an instructional designer.
,
• Expertise in ADA compliance preferred.
,
• Experience in leading and managing multiple complex projects.
,
• Strong research, content analysis, and preparation skills.
,
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
,
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
,
• Proven ability to stay current with rapidly changing technologies.
,
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
,
• Knowledge of instructional design strategies and current techniques for online courses.
,
• Experience with graphic design and AV elements for online instruction.
,
• Familiarity with Quality Matters and similar online learning rubrics.

• Understanding of Universal Design and accessibility principles.
,
• Competence in working with learning management systems, such as Canvas.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in asynchronous online classroom teaching or workshop facilitation.
