About the position

The Communications Intern at AARP Wyoming will engage in various communication strategies to support advocacy efforts and promote events aimed at improving the lives of individuals aged 50 and older. This role offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in community outreach, event planning, and communications within a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering older adults.

Responsibilities
• Engage in the communications strategies to advance AARP Wyoming's core advocacy issues of caregiving, fraud prevention, and financial security.

• Suggest communications tactics to promote and increase attendance at AARP Wyoming's in-person and virtual events.
,
• Research policy issues and draft communication copy to support advocacy efforts.
,
• Participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborating on communications tactics.
,
• Take a leadership role in the creation and dissemination of social media promotion.
,
• Explore paid advertising opportunities in support of AARP Wyoming priorities.
,
• Produce videos and photos to support outreach and advocacy events.

Requirements
• Currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university, considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctoral student.

• Pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields.

• Have clips of writing, photography, social media, or media campaign examples produced during paid employment or as academic projects.
,
• Self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
,
• Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities.
,
• Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation.
,
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
