**Overview:**
As a Specialty Scheduler - Gastroenterology - Flex Time, you will play a vital role in the daily operations of our Gastroenterology department. Your primary responsibility will be to manage multiple providers' surgery schedules, prepare surgery packets, and deliver exceptional customer service and patient care. **Responsibilities:**
• Perform a variety of duties for physicians and other members of the clinical staff
• Effectively manage multiple providers' surgery schedules
• Prepare surgery packets for physicians to take to surgical facilities
• Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care
• Accurately and efficiently communicate patient information as directed and provide information regarding patient to appropriate as necessary
• Perform patient interview to assess pre-operative needs based on anesthesia and physician-specific guidelines
• Coordinate pre-/post-surgical care for patients, including scheduling appointments and notifying patients of surgery-related appointments
• Ensure proper equipment is available for surgery by contacting surgical reps, material management, and case documentation
• Manage the usage of assigned block time and communicate with other surgery schedulers
• Maintain OR Utilization report for Carilion Clinic operating facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, and other surgical facilities utilized by physicians
• Document surgery or procedural information on individual physician calendars
• Assist with the scheduling of tests and outside physicians if applicable
• Complete authorization or work with the authorization team to ensure pre-certification is completed
• Communicate with Financial Counselors regarding any surgeries
• *Qualifications:**
• High School diploma or equivalent education required
• Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
• Completion of an accredited medical secretarial or business program preferred
• Health care experience preferred
• Keyboarding skills are essential
• Computer and word processing knowledge and experience required
• Medical terminology preferred
• Knowledge of CPT coding preferred
