About Us

Mercy In Faith Ministries is a 501(c)(3) faith-based nonprofit supporting immigrants through legal education, financial assistance for legal fees, and innovative immigration support programs. Our flagship initiative, MercyShare, is the nation’s first legal sharing program for immigrants facing deportation and removal proceedings.

We are building a network of DOJ-accredited representatives and launching a support system for volunteers seeking accreditation. We are looking for a Legal Advisor who shares our passion for justice and service.

Role Overview

As Legal Advisor, you will serve as the key legal architect for our immigration program. You will lead and oversee our DOJ Recognition & Accreditation initiative and help build a pipeline for volunteers to gain supervised hours and experience to become fully or partially DOJ-accredited.

This is an excellent opportunity for a solo immigration attorney or small firm interested in scaling their community impact and establishing a long-term partnership with a fast-growing legal ministry.

Key Responsibilities
• DOJ Program Oversight: Lead Mercy In Faith Ministries through the DOJ Recognition & Accreditation process
• Volunteer Training & Supervision: Supervise and guide volunteers/fellows to log qualifying hours toward DOJ accreditation
• Program Development: Assist in building SOPs, training materials, and workflows for immigration case support
• Legal Support: Review cases, forms, and filings (e.g., I-130, I-589, I-485, EOIR-42B), offer consults for MercyShare members
• Board Advising: Serve as legal advisor to the Board of Directors on immigration policy and legal programming
• Partnership Building: Work with our Executive Director to grow relationships with law schools, bar associations, and faith-based orgs

Ideal Candidate
• Licensed immigration attorney in good standing
• Has 3+ years of experience in removal defense or humanitarian immigration law
• Operates or works in a small firm and is open to partnership opportunities
• Passionate about building capacity in the immigration field and mentoring aspiring legal advocates
• Familiar with the DOJ Recognition & Accreditation process or willing to learn
• Comfortable working with faith-based organizations and diverse immigrant populations
• Strong communicator with a collaborative spirit

Compensation
• This is a volunteer role with a $5,000/year flat stipend
• Includes fellowship-style benefits: nonprofit board experience, team collaboration, community leadership visibility
• Possibility of future paid position or long-term legal partnership as the nonprofit grows
