This a hands-on role - actively involved in journal entries, reconciliations, and the monthly close process - with a goal of closing within five business days. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who leads by doing, drives process improvements, strengthens internal controls, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and nonprofit regulations. The Controller also manages fund accounting, supports audits and budgeting, and supervises a small accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration.&nbsp;<br><br><strong>Expectations of the role:</strong></span></span><ul><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Execute and manage the monthly close process, with the goal of achieving a consistent close within five business days</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Lead the accounting and reporting for restricted and unrestricted funds</span></span></li><li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12px;">Ensure that restricted funding is properly allocated and reported and aligned with grant terms</span></font></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Lead all aspects of financial&nbsp;reporting</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals in a hands-on manner</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Work closely with VP Finance and executive leadership to provide clear, actionable financial insights that support mission-driven decisions</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Support year-end audit and form 990 work papers</span></span></li></ul><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>Qualifications:</strong></span></span><ul><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ and support the ministry through prayer and actions</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Minimum 12 years&nbsp;of progressive accounting experience, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility in financial reporting, analysis, and compliance</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Minimum 5 years in a senior or leadership role within a non-profit organization</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance,&nbsp;or relevant field, Master's degree preferred</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">CPA certification strongly preferred</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Power BI and working knowledge of accounting software preferably Sage Intacct</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Deep knowledge of non-profit accounting and GAAP&nbsp;</span></span></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Excellent writing and editorial skills; approachable with strong collaboration skills</span></span></li><li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12px;">Demonstrated ability to lead staff with clarity and compassion as well as by doing</span></font></li><li><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is a remote position with a 5% travel component</span></span></li></ul><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>What we offer:</strong><br>At Prison Fellowship, our goal is to support the total well-being of all our employees.
