About the position
The Senior Research Assistant (Bilingual Mandarin) in Geriatric Oncology will play a vital role in conducting interviews and recruiting participants for clinical studies. This position involves training new staff, managing data, and ensuring the accuracy of study protocols, all while contributing to research that could significantly impact health outcomes for older adults.
Responsibilities
• Conduct telephone or in-person interviews with study participants.
,
• Recruit and consent study participants.
,
• Assist in training new study staff in study protocols and provide instruction to study participants.
,
• Prepare computer-generated reports, including statistical tables.
,
• Answer participants' and providers' questions.
,
• Screen and recruit participants; obtain consent.
,
• Schedule examination appointments for study participants.
,
• Review questionnaires for completeness and accuracy; check for inconsistencies; and code open-ended questions.
,
• Assist with all aspects of mailed surveys.
,
• Monitor participants' progress (e.g., blood pressure, exercise, response to questionnaires, tracking, etc.).
,
• Provide basic data management using database software.
,
• Maintain all pertinent project records and files.
,
• Transcribe data from records to forms.
Requirements
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in a research/health care environment required.

• Associates degree OR two (2) years of experience in a directly related field.
,
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
,
• Experience with computer applications, such as word processing and database software, required.
,
• Experience in editing/coding questionnaires required.
,
• Interviewing experience required.
,
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; telephone skills required.
,
• Familiar with medical terminology.
,
• Bilingual (English/Mandarin) Level I Required.
,
• Must have own car, valid driver's license and willing to travel up to 60-mile radius through the Bay Area to conduct in-person visits.
Nice-to-haves
• Bachelors degree OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field preferred.

• Professional experience with older adults with chronic conditions including cancer, cognitive impairment, and/or limited life expectancy.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, take direction from others and collaborate, and proactively troubleshoot study challenges in real time asking questions as needed.

• Preferred: Cantonese proficiency (in addition to Mandarin).
