Position Summary

We are seeking a Contract Technical Writer with a strong background in compiling engineering standards and recommended practices. The ideal candidate will have direct experience drafting, editing, and maintaining technical standards, codes, and recommended practices used in engineering design and construction. This role is critical in transforming expert input and technical data into clear, accessible, and authoritative documents for use across the profession.

Key Responsibilities:
• Draft and edit engineering standards, recommended practices, codes, and technical manuals.
• Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), technical committees, and standards development organizations.
• Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, structured, and technically accurate content.
• Ensure all documents adhere to internal style guides and conform to applicable national and international standards (e.g., ANSI, ISO).
• Participate in technical review meetings, track feedback, and incorporate revisions from stakeholders.
• Maintain version control and documentation history.
• Support the publication process, including formatting, indexing, and preparing documents for print or digital distribution.

Qualifications:

Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Communications, or Journalism or in a technical field
• Minimum 5 years of experience writing and editing engineering documentation, preferably involving civil and structural standards and codes.
• Excellent written communication skills with a keen eye for detail, clarity, and technical accuracy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and document management systems.

Preferred:
• Familiarity with structural engineering principles, building codes (e.g., API, ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC), and standards development processes.
• Master’s degree Technical Communication.
• Experience working with standards development organizations (e.g., ANSI, API ASTM, ISO, ASCE).
• Certification in Technical Writing or Engineering Communication.

Contract Details:
