About the position
Compass Family Services is seeking a dedicated Counselor for its Urgent Accommodation Voucher program, which provides temporary emergency hotel rooms for families and pregnant individuals in crisis. This role is crucial in addressing the immediate needs of families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, ensuring they receive the support necessary to transition to stable housing. The Counselor will be responsible for answering the after-hours hotline, assisting families in need of emergency shelter, and providing crisis intervention as required. The position requires a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, aligning with the organization's core values. The Counselor will work primarily from 4 PM to midnight, five days a week, with two available schedules: one from Sunday to Thursday and the other from Tuesday to Saturday. Initially, the Counselor will work at the Compass office and at various hotels where families are accommodated. After three months, there may be an opportunity to work remotely for part of the shift, provided the Counselor remains in San Francisco. This role demands strong communication skills, particularly over the phone, and the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the challenges faced by homeless families and be equipped to provide trauma-informed care. In addition to responding to hotline calls and assisting with hotel reservations, the Counselor will manage the program waitlist, enter notes into Salesforce and ONE System databases, and complete necessary site and incident reports. This position is vital in ensuring that families receive timely assistance and support during their time of need.
Responsibilities

Requirements
• Must be comfortable working alone, overnight, and traveling to meet families at the hotel at any point during the shift.
