About the position

The RN-Quality & Safety Improvement Consultant V, Patient Safety position is a critical role within Kaiser Permanente, focusing on the development and implementation of patient safety programs and initiatives. This position is responsible for creating and monitoring procedures for reporting safety hazards, accidents, incidents, and significant events, ensuring alignment with best practices. The consultant will lead improvement activities aimed at enhancing patient care and operational programs, ultimately striving to improve patient outcomes. In this role, the consultant will promote learning and collaboration among team members and stakeholders by effectively communicating information and providing guidance to drive projects forward. They will listen to and respond to performance feedback, offering actionable insights to others, including upward feedback to leadership. The consultant will practice self-leadership, creating and executing plans to leverage their strengths while addressing areas for improvement. Adaptability to competing demands and new responsibilities is essential, as is the ability to model team collaboration across various teams. The consultant will conduct or oversee business-specific projects, applying their deep expertise in the subject area to ensure adherence to all procedures and policies. They will partner with internal and external stakeholders to make informed business decisions, solve complex problems, and monitor progress and results. Developing work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines, the consultant will coordinate and delegate resources effectively to achieve organizational goals. They will also recognize and capitalize on improvement opportunities, evaluating recommendations and influencing project task completion by others. A significant aspect of this role involves developing and implementing data collection and analyses to support quality improvement efforts. This includes conducting advanced statistical analyses for quality improvement evaluations and presenting quality improvement metric reports to demonstrate the effectiveness of programs. The consultant will serve as a technical expert, interpreting trends and assisting in problem resolution related to data source analysis. Additionally, the consultant will support advanced quality improvement and risk management efforts by researching corrective action plans for identified areas of improvement and ensuring compliance with established regulations. They will conduct complex root cause analyses and proactively escalate high-risk issues to appropriate entities for resolution. The consultant will also investigate opportunities to develop new performance metrics and ensure their alignment with strategic objectives. Facilitating the development of quality improvement initiatives, the consultant will leverage advanced technology and methods to enhance stakeholder capabilities for process improvements. They will synthesize key information to create detailed work plans and documentation practices, ensuring a clear and logical approach to quality improvement initiatives. As a subject matter expert, the consultant will provide consultation on current policies and regulations, fostering collaborative partnerships to ensure compliance and improve patient safety. Finally, the consultant will develop stakeholder development and quality performance review processes, utilizing multidisciplinary criteria to identify areas for improvement and presenting performance review reports to department managers. They will also develop training and educational programs related to process improvement for quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.
,
• Minimum two (2) years of experience with databases and spreadsheets or continuous quality improvement (CQI) tools.

• Minimum four (4) years of experience in a clinical setting, health care administration, or a directly related field.
,
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or related field AND minimum six (6) years of experience in quality, performance improvement, or a directly related field OR minimum nine (9) years of experience in quality, performance improvement, or a directly related field.

• Knowledge of patient safety, negotiation, business process improvement, risk management, compliance management, applied data analysis, and project management.

Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or related field.

• Health care clinical license from the practicing/applicable state (e.g., Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Pharmacist (RPh), Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Social Worker).
