Position Overview
This is an independent contractor position. As such, you will be responsible for managing your own taxes, benefits, and other work-related obligations. Wonder Spark Learning will not provide employment benefits, and this role does not constitute an employer-employee relationship.
We are seeking experienced and reliable Math Teachers to join our team as independent contractors. Teachers will have the opportunity to create their own lesson plans, set their schedules, and teach in a supportive and flexible environment.
This role is perfect for educators who love designing their own curriculum, enjoy online teaching, and want to make math engaging and meaningful for students in a small-group format.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that align with curriculum standards.
• Design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate math lessons for one or more of the following groups:
• Lower Elementary (Grades K–2): Focus on number sense, patterns, counting, and early math concepts through hands-on and visual strategies.
• Upper Elementary (Grades 3–5): Emphasize problem-solving, multi-digit operations, fractions, and conceptual understanding using interactive tools.
• Middle School (Grades 6–8): Support deeper understanding of ratios, pre-algebra, geometry, and critical thinking through real-world applications and practice.
• Use engaging techniques such as games, visual models, digital manipulatives, and inquiry-based questions.
• Foster a supportive online classroom environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
• Communicate clearly with families when needed and provide feedback on student progress.
Qualifications
Background Check: Candidates must successfully pass a background check.
Background Check Details: Wonder Spark Learning will cover the cost of the background check, which includes verification of criminal record and teaching credentials.
Required:
• Strong math teaching background with experience working with children and/or teens.
• Comfortable designing your own lesson plans tailored to different age levels and math abilities.
• Tech-savvy and familiar with online teaching platforms like Zoom.
• A reliable computer, high-speed internet, webcam, and microphone.
• Fluent in English with strong communication skills.
• A quiet, distraction-free teaching space.
Preferred:
• Prior experience teaching math online.
• Familiarity with hands-on and visual teaching strategies (e.g., number bonds, arrays, bar models).
• A degree in education, mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience using digital tools for math instruction (e.g., Jamboard, virtual manipulatives, Google Slides).
Pay and Benefits
Compensation:
$14–$42 per hour, depending on student enrollment per class.
Flexibility:
• Set your own teaching schedule.
Support and Resources:
• While you’ll design your own lesson plans, we provide onboarding guidance and example materials if needed.
• Collaborative support from a growing team of educators and leaders.
Teaching Details
Platform: All classes are taught via Zoom.
Class Size: Small group format (2–12 students).
Class Duration: 30 to 60 minutes depending on topic and age level.
