About the position

The Intercultural English Language Programs (IELP) at The Ohio State University is seeking a bilingual Lecturer in English and Japanese to provide English as a Second Language (ESL) training to adult corporate learners from Japan. This position involves delivering instruction through online platforms, primarily via Zoom for one-on-one and small group sessions, as well as creating asynchronous content in Canvas. The teaching hours are typically scheduled in the afternoons and evenings, between 1 PM and 9 PM, allowing for flexibility in accommodating learners' needs. The Lecturer will collaborate with a team to develop, maintain, and enhance the online curriculum, ensuring it meets the educational goals of the program. Additionally, the role includes tracking student progress, submitting reports to the Director, and assisting with the administration of the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) at client sites, which may require in-state travel. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Multilingual Language Education, or a closely related field. They should be highly proficient in both English and Japanese, capable of using both languages effectively to teach English for Occupational Purposes. Experience in teaching adult ESL/EFL learners and developing curriculum for English language learners is essential. A strong understanding of pedagogical grammar and mechanics of English, along with proficiency in using learning technologies for teaching, is also required. Familiarity with online course management systems, particularly Canvas, is preferred. The position offers a target salary range of $51,000 - $54,000 annually and is a term appointment with an expected end date of March 31, 2026, with potential for contract renewal.

Responsibilities
• Serve as instructor for learners in one-on-one or small group settings via Zoom or similar technology

Requirements
• Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Multilingual Language Education or closely related field
