About the position

The Emergency Dispatcher plays a vital role in the law enforcement team, providing essential support to police officers by coordinating emergency responses and managing communications during crises. This position requires a working knowledge of emergency dispatch operations, including the use of complex computer systems and effective communication with law enforcement personnel. Dispatchers must perform their duties in a bias-free manner, ensuring equitable treatment for all individuals.

Responsibilities
• Coordinate the deployment of emergency personnel and equipment during crises.

• Provide critical information and services to police officers in the field.

• Conduct preliminary investigations and interpret complex computer printouts.

• Utilize interrogation techniques, CPR, and Basic First Aid as required.

• Maintain effective communication with law enforcement personnel and external agencies.

Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent education.

• For Emergency Dispatcher E8: One year of experience equivalent to an Emergency Dispatcher 7.

• CPR certification may be required.

• Pass the agency-administered examination testing computer and dispatching skills.

• Pass a pre-employment screening, including a criminal history background check.
