Title: COBOL Programming IT Developer
Duration of position: Initially 3 months, 20 Hrs/week.
Work mode: 100% Remote
Scope of work: The client is seeking the services of an IT Developer with COBOL programming in an IBM VSE Environment. This person, or persons would be responsible for assisting in the upgrade of the ICON system to comply with the new specifications.
Primary applications are:
• Unemployment Insurance Benefits System which supports unemployment
payments for eligible claimants, and
• Unemployment Insurance Tax System, which determines employers' cost of
unemployment insurance based on their history and ensures that it is paid.
EXISTING TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT
• IBM VSE 2.3
• COBOL
REQUIREMENTS:
• For this particular request, knowledge requirements include: Demonstrate
proficiency with COBOL, CICS, JCL, Easytrieve, FTP, VSAM and SAM file
structures, and mainframe libraries in both test and production VSE
environments.
• Analyze, design, code, test, document, and implement updates to existing
COBOL programs and prepare ad hoc reports.
• Analyze related systems to assess and address any unintended adverse impacts.
• Quickly learn business processes and adapt to new requirements.
• Communicate clearly with business leaders, supervisors, and colleagues to
understand issues and needs, clarify specifications, fulfill requests and resolve
problems.
• Organize priorities among assignments and provide time estimates as
appropriate and provide timely updates to supervisor and business as
appropriate.
• Work both independently and as a team member.
• Troubleshooting production and user-reported problems, using knowledge of
job and program logic, error messages, abend codes, JCL output, and displays. Apply tot his job
