CMD, a full-service creative agency, is seeking a hands-on Controller with strong technical accounting and forecasting skills. You’ll lead the Finance department, act as the financial partner for agency leadership, and establish best practices across the organization. The ideal candidate will have prior agency experience and a demonstrated track record of working closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and company leadership to drive success and help us scale, grow, and build for the future. The Controller will manage a small team but will also be comfortable being in the work to help us accelerate our planning and decision-making.
This role is based in Portland, Oregon. While our team is hybrid, we are open to remote work with west coast hours. It reports directly to the President.
THINGS YOU WILL DO
· Act as the financial leader for the organization.
· Manage all accounting and finance operations. Oversee the preparation of timely monthly financial statements, departmental and agency forecasts and budgets, and government reporting requirements and tax filings.
· Oversee and manage accounts receivables, accounts payables and cash management activities and staff. Update and improve the agency financial KPIs for the organization and across the client and functional teams.
· Manage our bank and lender relationships.
· Refine and maintain forecasting and modeling tools to assure timely updates, the ability to do granular analysis, and integration with other systems.
· Collaborate with the leadership team to develop methodologies and best practices around pricing, rates, margins, staff utilization, and contractual documentation to reduce risk and improve efficiency and profit
· Extract, combine, and summarize data to analyze the financial impact of agency activities, and effectively communicate key findings to the President.
· Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
· Liaise with external auditors and regulators, as needed.
THINGS YOU HAVE:
· 5 - 7 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience, ideally including meaningful agency or other professional service company experience and preferably at least two years in public accounting
· Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures
· Experience in cash management, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, systems implementations, technical accounting and policy development
· A strong knowledge of agency-focused financial metrics, KPIs, and processes
· Excellent analytical, written and communication skills
· The ability to identify major risks and work collaboratively with management teams to develop plans to mitigate those risks Apply tot his job
