About the position

Pisgah Legal Services (PLS) is seeking two full-time Social Workers to join our team, focusing on the Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) and the Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP). The HOP position will be based in our Asheville office, serving clients across 18 counties in Western North Carolina, with a primary focus on Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, and Transylvania counties. The Social Worker will partner with attorneys and other staff to assist clients in connecting with resources that address social determinants of health, particularly in relation to housing, income, and intimate partner violence. This role requires the use of the NCCARE360 Referral Platform to provide case management for Medicaid-eligible clients, helping them achieve stability in interpersonal violence, housing, and other health-related goals. The HOP/HPP position will be based in our Hendersonville office, focusing on clients in Henderson County. This role will be split between working with clients experiencing or at risk of homelessness and supporting the Healthy Opportunities Pilot. The Social Worker will develop respectful and compassionate relationships with clients, utilizing an empowerment and advocacy approach to promote self-determination. They will provide case management services, serve as a referral source for the Healthy Opportunities Pilot, and work within a Trauma Informed Care framework, recognizing the impact of trauma on client behaviors and responses. Candidates should have a deep understanding of poverty's causes and impacts, as well as the discrimination and oppression that affect clients based on various factors such as race, gender, and immigration status. A passion for promoting justice and overcoming barriers for low-income individuals is essential, along with a commitment to achieving lasting results for clients and communities.

Responsibilities
• Develop relationships with each client based in respect and compassion.

• Utilize an empowerment and advocacy approach to promote and protect clients' right to self-determination.

• Provide case management services to Medicaid eligible Healthy Opportunities clients.

• Serve as the referral source and feedback loop for Healthy Opportunities Pilot referrals to Pisgah Legal Services.

• Support clients to make their own decisions and life plans.
,
• Work within a Trauma Informed Care framework, recognizing that many client behaviors may be related to traumatic experiences.

• Understand and apply approaches within the social determinants of health framework.
,
• Adapt work to understand the discrimination and oppression impacting clients based on various factors.
,
• Document all work in Legal Server case management software and Unite Us (NCCARE 360) database.
,
• Take referrals from Unite Us and Healthy Opportunities Pilot referral organizations.
,
• Build relationships with clients to support and meet immediate needs.
,
• Connect clients with appropriate services to address safety, health, housing, transportation, employment, food, education, substance use & family care needs.

• Explore options to meet needs when necessary services do not exist in a community.
,
• Organize and conduct community engagement.
,
• Develop and maintain community relationships with other non-profit agencies, government officials, community leaders, and others.
,
• Travel within the service area and to meetings or conferences in other parts of NC.
,
• Adhere to program priorities and case handling policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

• Work with volunteers, including volunteer attorneys and social work students.
,
• Assist with fundraising in coordination with PLS Development Team.

• Maintain confidentiality.

Requirements
• Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work required, MSW preferred.
,
• Demonstrated skills at socio-economic and cultural sensitivity.
,
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
,
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with teams and independently.
,
• Demonstrated commitment to equity and justice, including racial equity.
,
• Possess a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves
• Spanish language skills strongly desired.

Benefits
• Salary ranges from $43,234- $75,935 depending on experience.

• Additional language skills may qualify for up to an additional $3k upon completing a language assessment test.
