About the position
The Crisis Counselor Chat position at Foundation 2 Crisis Services involves providing real-time, compassionate support to individuals experiencing emotional distress and mental health crises through an online chat platform. Counselors will assess client risk, build rapport, and collaborate on coping strategies and safety plans. This part-time role requires availability for weekend shifts and offers the flexibility to work remotely within Iowa or on-site at the Cedar Rapids crisis center.
Responsibilities
• Provide real-time, compassionate, non-judgmental crisis support to clients through the online chat service.

• Attend initial trainings and all-staff meetings during daytime hours 1-2 times per month.

• Dispatch additional client services, such as Mobile Crisis Outreach, when necessary.
,
• Document each chat contact to ensure quality record keeping.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in human service or any field plus one year of relevant experience, or a master's degree in a human service-related field.

• Comfort using basic computer software and basic typing and data entry skills.
,
• High comfort with computers with the ability to type quickly and multi-task.
,
• Excellent writing and grammar skills.
,
• Private home office to ensure confidentiality and reliable, high-speed internet at home.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience in crisis services is preferred.

• Education or training in trauma-informed care preferred.

• Experience in strengths-based practices preferred.

• Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques preferred.

• Background in motivational interviewing preferred.

• Knowledge/experience working in the mental health, substance use, and/or problem gambling field preferred.
