Summary:

ThunderYard is seeking a skilled Linux Systems Administrator to join our team and support mission-critical infrastructure for a federal client. In this role, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing Linux-based systems, ensuring their reliability, security, and performance. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless operation of essential services, directly impacting federal operations.

Key Responsibilities
• System Administration: Manage and maintain Linux servers ensuring system integrity, performance, and reliability.
• Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and troubleshoot server software, services, and applications.
• Monitoring & Performance Tuning: Monitor system performance, identify issues, and implement solutions to optimize efficiency.
• Security Management: Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls, access controls, and patch management to protect systems against vulnerabilities.
• Backup & Recovery: Ensure regular backups and implement disaster recovery solutions to protect data integrity and availability.
• Network Configuration: Configure and troubleshoot network services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, and VPNs.
• Incident Response: Respond to and resolve system-related incidents, providing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
• Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior Linux administrators and other IT team members.
• Project Involvement: Participate in and lead IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new implementations.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Must be VA cleared and have an active VA Public Trust
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Linux system administration.
• Proficiency in Linux server management (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu), shell scripting, and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) for management and maintenance.
• Develop and maintain scripts for automating system administration tasks using tools like Bash, Python, or Ansible.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and file systems according to federal policy.
• Implement and enforce STIGs, NIST 800-53 controls, and other federal cybersecurity frameworks.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with administering databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle on Linux platforms.

Preferred Qualifications
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and network services.
• Experience with implementing and managing security measures, including SELinux, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and lead technical initiatives.
• Relevant certifications such as RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer), CompTIA Linux+, or LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certification).
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VMware, KVM, or Docker.

Compensation:

The salary is budgeted at $120,000-$125,000 annually, plus benefits. ThunderYard offers benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k matching, PTO, certification reimbursement and more.
