About the position
The Pathology PB Coder 2 (Coding Specialist II) at Oregon Health & Science University is responsible for coding physician and facility fees, ensuring compliance with Medicare/Medicaid regulations, and maintaining accurate documentation. This role requires collaboration with coding leadership and billing departments, as well as mentoring new coders. The position emphasizes productivity and quality standards in coding and billing processes.
Responsibilities
• Review clinical documentation of services to be coded in EPIC and other sources to ensure compliance with CMS.

• Assign correct CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for various services including E&M and procedural services.

• Establish and maintain procedures for coding and billing activities for assigned work queues.
,
• Monitor compliance with federal and state laws regarding correct coding as set forth by CMS and OMAP.

• Coordinate billing information to ensure completeness and accuracy.
,
• Maintain open communication with coding supervisors and team leads regarding coding issues.
,
• Develop and disseminate written procedures to improve billing and coding processes.
,
• Serve as a resource for outpatient coding leadership and team on billing policy issues.

• Attend coding meetings and share knowledge with other coders.

• Participate in coding education sessions and stay informed of current trends.
Requirements
• High School diploma or GED.

• Minimum two years of experience in hospital or professional services coding using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.

• Certification from AAPC or AHIMA, such as CPC, RHIA, RHIT, or CCS.
Nice-to-haves
• Accredited Coding Program completion (AAPC or AHIMA).

• Knowledge of OPPS guidelines and CPT coding guidelines.

• Familiarity with CCI edits and medical necessity guidelines.
