About the position

The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is seeking an Executive Director for the Murals of La Jolla program, a well-established initiative aimed at enhancing the civic character of La Jolla through commissioned public artworks. This role is pivotal in leading the program, which has been operational since 2010 and has successfully commissioned 48 artworks to date. The Executive Director will work closely with a volunteer Art Advisory Committee to conceptualize and develop new murals, ensuring that the projects resonate with diverse audiences and contribute positively to the community's artistic landscape. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Murals of La Jolla project, from the selection of artists to the management of fundraising initiatives. This includes acting as the primary point of contact for artists, coordinating proposals, and facilitating site visits. The role also involves managing communications with property owners and ensuring that all projects are executed smoothly from proposal to installation. The successful candidate will have a strong background in public art, project management, and community engagement, with a proven track record in fundraising and collaboration with various stakeholders. In addition to project management, the Executive Director will lead fundraising efforts, develop and track the yearly budget, and cultivate relationships with donors.
