About the position
AARP Foundation works for and with vulnerable people over 50 to end senior poverty and reduce financial hardship by building economic opportunity. As a charitable affiliate of AARP, we serve AARP members and nonmembers alike. Through vigorous legal advocacy and evidence-based solutions, and by strengthening supportive community connections, we foster resilience, advance equity and restore hope. The External Engagement and Special Projects Director will be responsible for developing a strategic plan and calendar for AARP Foundations' President's external engagements, ensuring their positioning aligns with key stakeholders and partners. You will collaborate with the Executive Writer to coordinate external communications, ensuring consistency with the Foundation's strategic objectives. Additionally, you will take on special projects as needed, serving in a project management capacity to drive key initiatives forward.
Responsibilities
• Collaborates with colleagues and management to develop and execute multi-platform outreach strategies for priority releases and projects to inform, educate, and influence internal and external audiences.

• Serves as lead point-of-contact for cross-enterprise work on publications, external relations, and videos.

• Produces or provides guidance to staff on video content.
,
• Promotes and positions releases and projects with various internal teams and business units.
,
• Develops and manages opportunities for experts/content to show up externally.
,
• Participates in and actively contributes to integration workgroups.
,
• Leads and/or implements contractual agreements between AARP and external vendors.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree.
,
• Experience in positioning executives with key stakeholders, partners, and external audiences to enhance visibility and influence.
,
• Strong background in coordinating and managing executive-level communications, preferably in collaboration with writers or communication teams.
,
• Demonstrated ability to manage special projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
,
• Experience working across teams and departments to ensure cohesive messaging and strategic coordination.
