About the position
The Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming) position at the New York State Education Department involves serving as an Application Development and Support Specialist. The role focuses on collaborating with vendors and providing technical support for the core VR case management software, ensuring operational efficiency and system integrity.
Responsibilities
• Provide hands-on support, troubleshooting, and support services for multiple interfaces and integrations with the core VR Case Management.

• Document technical information and changes related to multiple integrations.

• Provide testing, defect analysis, and technical problem management support.

• Proactively monitor for system problems and provide hands-on issue resolution services.
,
• Partner with vendor staff, NYSED ITS staff, and ACCES business teams to provide a full range of operational support services.

• Participate in the testing of applications and products and develop test plans if needed.

• Provide help desk support, with knowledge of the Zendesk application preferred.
,
• Assist VR staff in root cause analysis of defects and application issues resolution.
,
• Assist subordinate staff in technical problem resolution as necessary.

• Support ongoing operations of the complete VR solution, including maintaining, enhancing, testing, and implementing changes.
Requirements
• A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science with at least 9 semester credit hours in programming languages AND two years of experience in computer programming.

• A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field AND three years of experience in computer programming.

• An associate degree with 15 semester credit hours in programming languages AND four years of experience in computer programming.

• Five years of experience in computer programming.
