About the position
The University of Michigan-Dearborn Office of Student Life is seeking personable, hard-working students who are proactive critical thinkers to serve in the position of Student Organization Consultant. As paraprofessional members of the Student Life team, Student Organization Consultants (SOCs) serve as the main point of contact for all student organization-related questions. This is achieved through the development of workshops, policies, and the support of day-to-day operations of student organizations. This role provides SOCs the opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones while supporting the creation of vibrant student experiences at UM-Dearborn. As paraprofessional members of the Student Life team, SOCs serve as the primary contact for student organizations on campus. SOCs not only help answer questions for student organization members and officers, but also maintain records, approve events for organizations, and create developmental and informational content for student leaders on campus. SOCs also conduct Campus Involvement Consultations with students who are interested in getting more involved on campus and aren't sure where to start. Additionally, SOCs work as a team to brainstorm new ideas to improve the experiences of student organizations and their members. Student Organization Consultants report to the Campus Involvement Coordinator and the overall Student Life team, and can anticipate working an average of 10 hours per week.
Responsibilities
• Develop and lead workshops for student organization leaders

• Review and update Office of Student Life policies that pertain to student organizations
,
• Assist students with the creation of new student organizations
,
• Create and send informational and marketing materials to student org leaders (Newsletter, flyers, policies, etc.)
,
• Maintain student organization records (budgets, policies, registration, etc.)
,
• Serve as the main point of contact for student organization related questions
,
• Update and manage Victorslink - include event and form approvals
,
• Oversee organizations through the yearly re-registration process
,
• Conduct Campus Involvement Consultations with students who request an appointment
,
• Other tasks as assigned
Requirements
• Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Drive, etc.)
,
• Strong critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills
,
• Comfortable working with and learning new technologies
,
• Willingness to learn and improve skills
,
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
,
• Positive attitude and genuine enjoyment in helping people
,
• Ability to work with a diverse campus community of students, staff, alumni, and employers
