About the position
The Centralized Scheduler at Optum is responsible for managing patient scheduling processes and ensuring accurate patient information is obtained and maintained. This role involves working collaboratively with the care team to deliver excellent customer service and support the organization's mission. The position is hybrid, allowing for some remote work, and requires adherence to various healthcare protocols and standards.
Responsibilities
• Obtain accurate and updated patient information, such as name, address, insurance information
,
• Perform insurance verification on the date of service
,
• Schedule appointments and procedures in an organized and efficient manner
,
• Confirm and schedule appointments
,
• Answer incoming and outgoing telephone calls promptly and courteously
,
• Perform referral documentation promptly
,
• Schedule specialist appointments and follow-up appointments
,
• Obtain copies of lab results or specialist reports
,
• Adhere to Optum Employee Policies and standards
,
• Work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve specific team goals
,
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and OSHA requirements
,
• Participate in planning, coordinating, and implementing care with the multidisciplinary team
,
• Ensure continuity of care through scheduling and tracking systems
,
• Provide effective communication to patients, families, and healthcare professionals
,
• Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
,
• Cross-train and assist in other locations if needed
,
• Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
• High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
,
• 1+ years of customer service or healthcare-related experience
,
• Intermediate level of computer proficiency (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)
,
• Access to a designated quiet workspace at home with the ability to secure Protected Health Information (PHI)
,
• Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection
Nice-to-haves
• Experience working with an electronic health record (EPIC)

• Knowledge of medical terms
,
• 1+ years of experience in a medical front office position performing scheduling, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, and maintaining medical records
