About the position

Responsibilities

  • Report and track accidents and injuries.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and injuries, preparing reports outlining root causes and recommendations for prevention.
  • Review and inspect project traffic control for compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct field investigations to evaluate construction and maintenance activities for safety.
  • Monitor contractor and department operations for safety practices and compliance.
  • Analyze near-miss incidents and recommend preventative actions.
  • Schedule and conduct safety meetings.
  • Assess safety training needs and recommend training programs.
  • Instruct and coordinate safety training with the district trainer.
  • Investigate industrial and vehicular accidents for tort claims defense.

Requirements

  • Experience inspecting highway construction and maintenance project activities for safety compliance.
  • Ability to recognize potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to highway construction and maintenance.
  • Experience in preparing written reports and making oral presentations.
