About the position
AARP Foundation is dedicated to ending senior poverty by empowering vulnerable individuals aged 50 and older to build economic opportunities. As the charitable affiliate of AARP, we serve both AARP members and nonmembers, focusing on equitable outcomes for populations that have historically faced systemic discrimination. Our approach combines vigorous legal advocacy with evidence-based solutions and supportive community connections to foster resilience, advance equity, and restore hope. AARP Foundation Litigation, our public interest law firm, operates at the intersection of aging and social justice, advocating for systemic change in federal and state courts nationwide. We aim to advance the legal rights and interests of older adults, particularly those who are low-income and vulnerable. Our litigation efforts focus on reducing barriers to employment, increasing access to benefits, protecting consumers from unlawful practices, lowering out-of-pocket costs for essential expenses, and promoting equitable outcomes across these areas. We are seeking a dedicated and talented third-year law student for the Foundation Litigation Fellow position, which will commence in August/September 2025. This full-time role (40 hours per week) offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in public interest law while contributing to our mission of ending senior poverty. The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker, eager learner, and team player, ready to engage in meaningful legal work that impacts the lives of older adults. As a fellow, you will work under the supervision of AARP Foundation attorneys, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, assisting in civil discovery, interviewing clients, collaborating with co-counsel, and participating in litigation strategy.
Responsibilities

Requirements
• Graduating (class of 2025) law student

• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
,
• Proficiency with WESTLAW and other legal research platforms

• Significant experience with The Blue Book: A Uniform System of Citation
,
• Demonstrated public interest/public service interest or experience
,
• Regular and reliable job attendance
,
• Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships
,
• Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions
