Hello Upworkers,
We’re a small, dynamic publishing team looking for an eagle-eyed editor to help elevate our non-fiction books to the next level.
Genres:
Non-fiction: Covering a variety of topics
Your Role:
Review and refine draft manuscripts
Proofread and edit to a SUPERB standard
Format for Kindle if you have the skills (not required, but a bonus)
Complete and return the edited manuscript within 24-72 hours, depending on the length (typically around 30,000 words)
What We’re Looking For:
Native English speaker
Mastery of spelling and grammar
Ability to make writing flow effortlessly—this goes beyond just fixing errors!
Quick communicator and dependable professional
Interested in building a long-term working relationship
Someone who can provide honest and insightful feedback on the overall quality of the book
Key Guidelines: We’re expecting 5+ manuscripts in the near future. These books are commissioned from a single source, with specific guidelines provided for each. Part of your job will include ensuring the content aligns with these guidelines (the guidelines document is around 250 to 500 words).
We’re looking for someone who can take charge and make necessary edits without leaving an excess of comments. We aim to avoid sending manuscripts back to the source unless absolutely necessary. If you find something that needs fixing and you can handle it, please do. When you deliver the final manuscript, we’d like your honest take on the book, including:
Did the book read well?
Did it fulfill the guidelines we set out?
Were all errors, both in writing and content, corrected?
Is there anything we should know about the manuscript?
Do you believe the manuscript is publishable, or does it need to be returned to the source? (We prefer not to do this, but we’re open to your honest assessment.)
Compensation: Payment will be determined per book, based on length. For a 30,000-word book, our budget is between $150-$250.
If you’re detail-oriented, love exploring new topics, and are ready for a rewarding challenge, we’d love to connect with you!
Please begin your cover letter with the word ‘EAGLE to show you’ve read this entire post. If you skip this, we’ll have to pass on your application. Also, include your rate for a 30,000-word book.
Thank you! Apply tot his job
