About the position

The Biologist 1, 2, or 3 position at the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office (LOSCO) involves assisting in the implementation of oil spill-related Natural Resource Damage Assessments (NRDAs). The role requires fieldwork to collect biological and habitat data, prepare reports, and provide guidance on investigations related to habitat, fish, and wildlife. The position is critical for ensuring effective spill response and public education regarding oil spills in Louisiana.

Responsibilities
• Assist in the implementation of oil spill-related Natural Resource Damage Assessments (NRDAs).
,
• Design and direct field plans to collect biological and habitat data for oil spills, damage assessments, and restoration projects.
,
• Prepare comprehensive reports detailing project developments, biology and habitat issues, and monitoring activities for NRDA projects.
,
• Provide guidance and direction in field investigations for NRDA projects associated with habitat, fish, and wildlife.
,
• Train field personnel in proper techniques to collect, store, and transfer scientific data.
,
• Conduct literature reviews and maintain literature citation database and LOSCO's database.
,
• Assist in the development of wildlife and habitat response preparedness and protection plans.
,
• Serve on the State Natural Resource Response Team during NRDA activities.
,
• Represent LOSCO at meetings, workshops, symposiums, and training opportunities.

Requirements
• A baccalaureate degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries management, animal science, forestry, natural resources, or conservation.
,
• Computer proficiency is required to access work assignments and communicate with involved parties.
,
• NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 series and HAZWOPER training are required and will be provided.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in conducting field research and investigations.
