Position Summary

We are a boutique law firm specializing in medical malpractice and elder abuse defense, seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Remote Civil Litigation Legal Assistant. This role is ideal for a legal professional with 5–7 years of litigation support experience, particularly in defending healthcare providers, long-term care facilities, and medical professionals. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting attorneys throughout all stages of complex medical litigation, while working independently in a fully remote environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to attorneys handling medical malpractice and elder abuse defense cases.
• Draft, edit, and format legal correspondence, pleadings, discovery requests/responses, and medical chronology summaries.
• E-file documents in state and federal courts, including those with complex filing procedures (e.g., California).
• Manage litigation calendars, court deadlines, and case schedules.
• Coordinate depositions, IMEs, expert consultations, and meetings.
• Organize, index, and maintain large volumes of medical records and case-related documents using MyCase.
• Communicate professionally with clients, experts, court personnel, and opposing counsel.
• Support trial preparation, including assembling exhibit binders, witness files, and hearing/trial logistics.

Required Qualifications
• 5–7 years of experience as a legal assistant supporting civil litigation attorneys, with a strong focus on medical malpractice and/or elder abuse defense.
• Solid knowledge of medical terminology, litigation procedure, and healthcare documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal management platforms (e.g., MyCase, Dropbox, Westlaw).
• Familiarity with court rules and e-filing systems in California and other relevant jurisdictions.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage high-volume, document-heavy caseloads.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Capable of working independently in a fully remote environment, with consistent availability during standard business hours.

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in insurance defense or with skilled nursing facility litigation.
• Working knowledge of elder law issues, standard of care defenses, and long-term care regulations.

Work Environment
• Fully remote position.
• Salary range: $65k - $80k
• Requires a dedicated home office setup with reliable internet connection.
• Must be comfortable using Zoom, Teams, or similar virtual communication platforms.
