About the position
Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced Systems architect that can drive high level design efforts of our software products for legacy and next generation control systems. The position will be responsible for creating and refining system architectures for embedded systems, implementing design models and verifying their functions at a high level. This position requires proficiency with embedded computing systems, systems architecture principles as they apply to embedded software, experience with aerospace software product lifecycles, and experience with software integration and verification techniques. This position is for a Senior Principal Systems Engineering professional with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. This role will consist of conducting and coordinating system/software development activities, conducting complex tests, debugging systems with control and diagnostic capabilities, make recommendations to management on ways to improve cost and quality of software products, implement critical software system capabilities, prepare and present design reviews, and coordinate software development activities across multiple organizations. This is a hybrid role (combination of onsite and remote work) based in Windsor Locks, CT. Weekly onsite presence is required.
Responsibilities
• Create and refine systems architecture for embedded control and diagnostic systems
,
• Implement system designs on both the simulated and target environment
,
• Ensure design model meets performance metrics through utilization of instrumentation and benchmarks
,
• Conduct and coordinate High level verification activities defined by DO-178C
,
• Debug systems with control and diagnostic capabilities
,
• Make recommendations to management on ways to improve cost and quality of software products
,
• Design and implement build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development and function
,
• Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of control and diagnostic systems
,
• Establish end user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements and input data acquisition
,
• Ensure hardware and software standards are met
,
• May develop systems configuration standards for company-wide use
,
• May train system developers in the use of configuration management tools and the implementation of software quality standards
,
• Identify opportunities to lead model-based development transformation
Requirements
• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
,
• U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

• Working experience in embedded systems development, systems architecture, or aerospace software engineering

• In-depth knowledge of DO-178C and other safety-critical software development standards
,
• Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and tools
,
• Working programming experience in C, Python, or Ada for embedded systems

• Hands-on experience with software verification, validation, and debugging techniques
,
• Understanding of hardware/software integration and experience working with embedded processors and microcontrollers

• Experience working with cross-functional teams and coordinating software development activities across multiple stakeholders
