Sequoia Ecological Consulting, Inc. (Sequoia) is a small, woman-owned environmental consulting firm that specializes in environmental and biological planning, permitting, and field services. We serve federal, state, and local public agencies, as well as private clients throughout California. Sequoia’s team develops creative solutions to complex projects through proactive planning, collaboration, and attention to detail.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE you share our values. You will thrive supporting environmental permitting and compliance projects located throughout California. You will leverage your understanding of biology, state and federal regulations, and project management to lead moderately complex projects or programs for a variety of clients. We are looking for a dynamic individual who enjoys working independently and with teams. You are experienced in project management and coordination, deliverable oversight and QAQC, business development, field survey coordination, impacts analysis, permit assessments, and report preparation for biological work. This individual will be a member of the Sequoia supervisory team and will supervise 2-4 team members. Travel may be necessary, with mostly day trips within the Sacramento and/or San Francisco Bay areas. Occasional overnight travel may also be expected.

You will impact the team by:
• Acting as the lead and main point of contact for assigned projects.
• Managing environmental projects ranging from biological assessments and documentation, scheduling to meet deadline goals, allocating resources, collecting data, writing reports, and communicating with team members and clients.
• Performing QA/QC of technical reports for peers and staff.
• Assisting clients and staff with the interpretation of current local, state, and federal regulations.
• Assisting clients and staff with environmental permitting, compliance monitoring, and reporting.
• Working closely with clients to successfully design and oversee projects from inception to completion.
• Preparing budgets, proposals, and support other business development projects.
• Leading multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
• Ensuring quality, scheduling, and budget objectives are met.
• Acting as the main point of contact for staff to reach out to with questions, concerns, and direction regarding their projects.
• Attending conferences and technical meetings, webinars, to present projects and develop client relationships.
• Striving to build long-term and effective relationships with clients and the Sequoia team.
• Supervising 2-4 direct reports.

WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU…

Have these Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, natural resources, ecology, environmental planning, forestry, or a related field.
• Project Manager I: At least one (1) year of project management, assistant project manager, or project coordination experience in consulting, including cost estimating, scheduling, scope development and management, and proposals and marketing. Project Manager II: six (6) years combined project coordination and project management experience with at least three years of demonstrated success as a project manager in consulting.
• Experience leading planning, permitting, compliance, or mitigation projects and/or programs in the biological and/or environmental consulting business.
• Working knowledge of CEQA, NEPA and other federal and state regulatory nexus and requirements.
• Experience supervising others preferred (mentoring, managing workload, goal setting, annual reviews, etc.).
• Experience preparing or contributing to biological assessment reports and other environmental documentation.
• California experience preferred.
