About the position
The Senior Resident Inspector (PWR) position is located in Bridgman, Michigan, within the Region III, Division of Operating Reactor Safety, Engineering and Reactor Projects Branch. The role involves implementing the NRC's inspection program at a nuclear reactor site, serving as the onsite representative of the NRC to the licensee and the public. The inspector will manage and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications, initiate enforcement actions when necessary, and evaluate overall licensee performance.
Responsibilities
- Manage, oversee, and conduct inspections of nuclear facilities to ensure compliance with design specifications. ,
- Initiate enforcement actions with regional management approval when inspection findings indicate a violation of the license or NRC rules and regulations. ,
- Participate as a team leader on inspections of reported problems, incidents, abnormal conditions, or allegations involving nuclear facilities. ,
- Evaluate overall licensee performance and identify areas requiring additional attention. ,
- Manage, control, and direct the work of a small group of technical and administrative employees at the resident site for less than 25% of the time. ,
- Coordinate the availability of the resident inspector staff for response to operating events, including accidents and incidents during off-duty hours.
Requirements
- At least one year of specialized experience at the lower grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. ,
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in nuclear plant operations, systems, integrated facility operations, and design. ,
- Ability to observe, evaluate, and assess the operations of nuclear power plants, including events. ,
- Ability to apply NRC rules, regulations, policies, guides, and review plans in the review or inspection of reactor operations, maintenance, engineering, and plant support. ,
- Ability to present technical information both orally and in writing. ,
- Ability to lead, train, and assess the performance of other assigned inspectors and/or part-time administrative assistants.
